Busy and Brilliant in Year 1
Year 1 have all worked incredibly hard this week and are showing increasing independence in many areas of their day. From organising their belongings and getting started with tasks independently to taking greater responsibility for their learning, it has been wonderful to see their confidence continue to grow. We are very proud of their positive attitudes, perseverance and enthusiasm for learning.
This week in Geography, we have been continuing to learn about the human and physical features of our world. The children explored these features on a map before heading outside to identify examples around the Pre-Prep playground. They enjoyed discussing what makes a feature human or physical and were able to confidently spot these in their surroundings before adding them to their maps.
In Maths, we have been exploring the concepts of more, fewer and the same. Using a range of practical apparatus, pictures and numbers, the children have developed their understanding through hands-on activities and discussions. They have also been completing stem sentences to explain and justify their mathematical thinking, demonstrating increasing confidence with key vocabulary.
Our focus text in English has been The Little Red Hen. We have been incredibly pleased with how quickly the children have learnt the story and can now retell it in the correct sequence using the repeated refrains. Through story mapping, actions and oral retelling, the children have built a strong understanding of the text, which has supported them in their writing. We are particularly proud of their enthusiasm and growing confidence as storytellers.
