Year 4 Get Creative with Clay
In their art lessons, Year 4 are currently exploring the amazing shapes, colours and patterns of the insect world. This week, they have started crafting their own insect-inspired tiles using earthenware clay. Pupils were excited to explore the satisfying tactile qualities of clay, starting by carefully rolling out a flat slab and cutting it into a square tile base.
It was then time for pupils to get creative with their ideas, finding inspiration from printed resources, past examples and, of course, their own imaginations! The Year 4s loved the problem-solving nature of this activity, working out how best to create their shapes and taking care to attach pieces of clay securely. Pupils finished their artwork by using their fingers and modelling tools to refine details and create texture.
These tiles are sure to look amazing once glazed and kiln-fired, bringing their colourful insect designs to life. We are looking forward to moving on to this stage in just two lessons' time. Well done, Year 4, what a creative bunch!
