Pre-School Enjoy Somerset Cheese-Tasting

As part of our learning this week, exploring ‘Our Connections’, Pre-School have ventured beyond Hazlegrove and have been discovering all the wonderful things Somerset has to offer.

The children have been learning about the different varieties of apples grown in Somerset. They used some of the apples to print onto fabric, which will then be hung from a Somerset willow wreath that we are creating and will display in the classroom.

During snack time, we enjoyed a Somerset cheese-tasting session, sampling cheeses from local producers: Godminster, Barbers, Wookey Hole and Westcombe. The children carefully tasted each cheese and decided that the most popular was Godminster Vintage Cheddar!

The children also made their very own pairs of ‘listening ears’ before venturing out into the grounds to listen carefully for environmental sounds. We heard birds chirping, the wind rustling through the trees, children playing and even a helicopter long before we could see it!

Fantastic listening skills from everyone! It has been a wonderful week of discovering, listening, tasting and connecting with our local Somerset community.
