Year 1 Enjoy Bringing Characters to Life

This week in Science, we have continued to learn about the human body and enjoyed identifying then labelling different body parts.

In English, we have been exploring the traditional tale The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We created story maps to help us remember the key events and practised retelling the story using actions, which helped bring the characters and events to life. We particularly enjoyed the “trip trap, trip trap” phrase which we used with a tapping action throughout the story. On Tuesday, we created amazing poems using some adventurous adjectives to describe the troll; we talked about similies and some children used these in their descriptions.

In Maths, we have been focusing on accurate counting from larger groups of objects - we talked about different ways of working this out by circling or crossing out then counting to check.  We have also been discussing different ways to check our totals and ensure our counting is accurate. We have used lots of practical apparatus and explored this in many ways.

During Games, the children had lots of fun on the Bastion, where they had the opportunity to try unihoc. It was wonderful to see everyone developing new skills and enjoying working as part of a team.

Swimming was a highlight of the week, and we have been very impressed with how independently the children are changing before and after their lessons.

We also enjoyed our first French lesson. The children listened to a story and began learning a new song, making a fantastic start to their language-learning journey.

Well done, Year 1, for another busy and successful week.
