Year 1 Show Kindness, Care and Helpfulness
Year 1 have had a wonderful first week back, and we are incredibly proud of how well everyone has settled into our new routines. The children have enjoyed exploring their new classroom, and it has been a pleasure to see them embrace a range of exciting new learning opportunities, including music, drama and computing.
We have also spent time revisiting our Golden Rules, discussing expectations around moving safely around the school and using playtime equipment. The Year 1 team has been particularly impressed by the kindness, care and helpfulness shown towards new friends joining our year group.
A mystery object arrived in our classroom this week, sparking lots of curiosity and discussion! The children investigated the object through touch and shared their predictions about what might be hidden inside. The big reveal showed that it was a typewriter, which linked to our class story, Click, Clack, Moo, where the farm animals use a typewriter to write notes to the farmer asking for all sorts of things! The children impressed us with their fantastic ideas and rich vocabulary as they explained their thoughts and predictions.
In Maths, we have been exploring different ways of sorting and categorising objects. The children have demonstrated great creativity and problem-solving skills, coming up with some very inventive ways to sort items into groups. We have also been practising estimating the number of objects before counting to check, using numbers to 10 and 20.
