Introduction
At Hazlegrove we feel it important that the children have a sense of moving on during their time here. To this end the school is structured into the Pre-Prep, the Lower School, the Middle School and the Upper School.
A purpose-built, self-contained Pre-Prep gives pupils the ideal start to their school careers. Classes are small with a generous teacher / pupil ratio. The Pre-Prep incorporates our Nursery where children can start from as young as 2 1/2 years old where staffing levels are in accordance with guidelines.
Aged 7, the children move on to the Lower School where they are classroom based with a class teacher for core subjects such as English and Maths and move around the school for subjects such as French and Science with specialist teachers.
Aged 9, the children progress to the Middle School where they move around the school for each lesson and are taught by specialist teachers across the curriculum.
The final two years in the Upper School at Hazlgrove are an exciting time with a combination of hard work and fun whilst they prepare for the move to their senior schools via Scholarship or the Common Entrance examinations. The time starts with a trip to the River Dart for the Year 7 children which enables the year group to bond and work on team building skills, welcoming in any new pupils who have joined us at this time. Following the culmination of the exams the Year 8 children have a leaver's trip and then get busy with the Year 8 production - a musical which never fails to entertain parents and pupils alike.
Pupils move on from Hazlegrove to wide variety of Senior Schools and a large number of awards are gained each year whether they be academic, sporting, musical, art and design or all round awards. Approximately half of parents choose to send their children to King's School Bruton - a school sharing the same Foundation as Hazlegrove which is located 8 miles away.
