Year 8 production of West Side Story
What a treat to see our Year 8 pupils producing such a wonderful version of West-Side Story. To put together a musical from scratch in two weeks is a mammoth and daunting undertaking, but they achieved it superbly!

It happens once a year: Mrs Fawbert appears just a little nervous; Mr Marquiss seemingly grows…yet taller; excitement builds within the music; an early queue for seats forms outside the theatre.

Hazlegrove soloists perform at Open Gardens with Music in Castle Cary
Hazlegrove pupils to performed at the Open Gardens with music event in Castle Cary on Sunday in aid of The Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, and Caryford Community Hall.
BBC Radio 3 Choir of the year
Last Sunday the Chamber Choir travelled to Cardiff to compete in the first round of the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition. ...the children thoroughly deserved the Choir of the Day award and we are now through to the National Selection stage.
Year 2 violins, informal concert
The whole of 2D have been having class violin lessons as part of the music curriculum over the past few months, culminating with a concert. There were some excellent solo performances, but I was so impressed with the whole class playing together. They all made a very lovely sound, playing four pieces with and without the bow, reading music from the white board and clearly enjoying the experience. Thanks to Mrs Rowntree and Mr Marquiss for all their hard work. I'm sure we have some budding violinists now in Year 2.
Concert, 21 May 2010
The concert last Friday was just so much fun. The Middle School choir sang a great rhythmic song in Spanish - help with the pronounciation came from our Spanish boys in Year 6 and it was most gratefully received! The Junior Strings gave an excellent performance under the leadership of Mrs Rowntree and all of the soloists performed so well - no hint of nerves at all! Well done to all involved.
Picnic in the Park Jazz evening at Clayesmore
The Hazlegrove Swing Band were one of eight prep schools performing at the Clayesmore Picnic in the Park Jazz evening.
Informal Lower School Concert
Parents of performers from the Lower School were invited to the Music Room for an informal concert.
Outstanding Lamda examination results
The children taking the LAMDA drama examination results last term achieved outstanding results.
The Spring Concert

Year 5 Myths & Legends evening
Year 5 took to the stage in March, with the task of entertaining an audience, by combining storytelling and drama with a selection of their written work. The theme for the evening was Myths and Legends - and what a success it was...
Dance show
On Thursday evening, Mrs Cowin put on a magnificent dance show. Girls and boys from Year 1 through to Year 8 took part and each child danced their best in a wonderful array of colourful costumes.

Friday's concert was another display of the talent we have here at Hazlegrove. There were some very moving performances which left some of the audience close to tears!
The Pinafore Pirates
The Hazlegrove Lower School, Years 3 & 4, put on a fantastic production of "The Pinafore Pirates" - an operetta in the style of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Orchestral day at Sherborne
Sixteen children from Hazlegrove participated in the Orchestral Day at Sherborne School for Boys. We had representatives in every section - strings, woodwind, brass and percussion.
Speech and Drama Evening
Hazlegrove Speech and Drama pupils provided a fantastic evening of entertainment!

A great first concert of the term - we were treated to performances from some of the scholars in preparation for their forthcoming music scholarships to their senior schools.
Congratulations on getting into the National Children's Orchestra
Congratulations to Theo V who is now a member of the National Children’s Orchestra, what a fantastic achievement.
Lower School Concert
The Lower School Concert was yet another example of what our children are achieving at Hazlegrove. The soloists all performed well and with such confidence! The Dolphin Choir and the whole year group songs delighted the audience and we even had three boys from the Pre-Prep performing.
Joint concert with King's Bruton
Just before half term, Hazlegrove musicians enjoyed an evening with their counterparts at King's Bruton to put together a fabulous evening of entertainment.
The Spring Concert
Hazlegrove parents and friends were treated to a feast of music with the Spring Concert. This was a chance for all the groups and ensembles in the prep school to show what they have achieved.
With a little help from our Friends
The Friends of Hazlegrove School contribute much not only to the social life of the school but their fundraising activities are also a much needed support to many departments within Hazlegrove.
Lower School Play - Zoom
The Year 3 and 4’s musical ‘Zoom’, a hilarious version of The Aesop’s Fable of the Hare and the Tortoise was a huge success. The cast of 73 delighted us with their acting, singing and dancing, not to mention the innumerable corny jokes!
