A History competition that sparked the children's imagination

To recognise 100 years since the Battle of Cambrai where tanks were used ‘en masse’ by the British army for the first time, the children have been busy designing their own ‘tank of the future’.

This sparked their imagination, with the creativity and imagination displayed by all hugely impressive! We had a vast number of entries and it was very hard to choose winners from the three sections of the school. Nevertheless, Lucas M (Upper School), Jessica C and Skye P (Middle School) and Jemima H-M were picked as winners!

Lots of fun was had by all!

“Named the AT-AV (All Terrain-Armoured Vehicle), it has the ability to seamlessly move between land and water. The fan helps propel the tank forward while in hovercraft mode. This is then connected by a shaft below to another fan which helps it just hover over hard terrain. It has a land speed of 40mph, a water speed of 30mph and a crew of 4. Its main attacking weapon is its plasma canon, a new experimental projectile weapon of the future”. - Lucas M.

“Our tank combined the idea of a tank with that of sweets. We had a candy cannon that shot out candy as well as a bubble gum gloop which came out from the back. The tank itself was made out of lots of different sweets including lollypops. The mouse inside was made from white chocolate. Our tank would easily be found in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory universe”. - Skye P and Jessica C.

“I chose to do an ‘iceskate’ tank because if it was very cold and if the grass was frozen this tank would get through it. You can live in the ‘iceskate tank’ because it has everything you need, even water”. Jemima H-M
