Boarding

Hazlegrove has certainly become the place to be if you want a fun filled action packed weekend. We were spoilt with beautiful weather on Saturday afternoon. The boarders who stayed in basked in the sunshine and just enjoyed being outside watching cricket, ripsticking or simply playing with their friends. The best was yet to come: an amazing barbeque in the evening. The smell of steak, sausages and chicken on the barbeque was a sensory delight. After filling our bellies with delicious food it was then time to go up into houses for our Saturday night entertainment.

Sunday was even more exciting with so much on offer for the boarders to take advantage of. The day started with a great chapel by Mr Beverly, the assistant chaplain from Kings. After chapel the art room was opened where there was relaxing music playing whilst the boarders were making rulers, notebooks and picture frames. Some of the more adventurous decided time trials with the go-karts were more to their liking.

After a delicious roast lunch the Hazlegrove Boarders Games were about to begin. All the children were divided into teams and had to do a variety of activities that involved lots of cooperation and teamwork. Some of the activities on offer were: welly wanging, blind folded piggy back obstacle course and pillow jumping. The children were a real credit to themselves as they all had fun and worked together seamlessly.

The final activities of the day were shortbread making and sock hockey. For sock hockey the children were split into teams and they had to hit a sock into a goal using a rolled up piece of newspaper. Probably the most exciting game I have witnessed, judging by the decibel level in the sports hall. As is often the case the simplest least expensive games are often the most fun and memorable!

After all this frenetic activity a cup of hot chocolate and homemade short bread was enjoyed by all. Another wonderful weekend at Hazlegrove - oh how I wish I was a boarder!!!
