Author Karen Wallace talked to everyone from Reception to Year 6.  She has used her own childhood experiences to form the basis of her writing for children.  Here is report from Mrs Sharp following her talk to the Year 4 children:

Karen Wallace gave us a thoughtful insight into the challenges of turning fact into fiction. She provided us with some really good tips about writing our own historical fiction such as researching the period in detail, immersing oneself into the world of the characters by finding a picture of them and their surroundings, and choosing a title that draws in the reader.

Here is what the children thought...

  • ‘Her talk about one of her books (The Secret Of The Crocodiles ) was very inspiring’ Greta G
  • ‘Her books were very fascinating and interesting’ Alexander H
  • ‘She has inspired me to read different books’ Hector M
  • ‘She is very creative and I enjoyed it when she explained what her book was all about’. Issy M
  • 'I liked listening to her explaining about the Edwardians and how they built skyscrapers’. Otis S
  • 'I loved it so much when she talked about making ice cream! I never knew you needed egg yolks to make ice cream!’ James S
