Please see below the aims and ethos of Hazlegrove Preparatory School:

  • Christian values underpin so much of what we endeavour to do.
  • We aim to create and sustain a community which supports the traditional values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs with kindness and courtesy.
  • The well-being and happiness of pupils remains a clear priority in the belief that for a child to achieve the best he can, he must enjoy school and have a positive picture of him or herself.
  • We hope that any judgements that are made of each other and the value we place on one another are based on moral and ethical values and human qualities, rather than on material things or innate ability.
  • Through the curriculum, the timetable and the tutor system, teaching staff are committed to providing the opportunity and stimulus for academic achievement.
  • A hands-on and varied approach to the curriculum ensures that all pupils have the opportunity to learn and to succeed.
  • We are determined to produce well-rounded individuals who are appropriately equipped for the next stage of their lives.
  • We are committed to the development of sport, music, art and drama as well as providing and promoting outdoor education.
  • We have a belief in boarding, committed to the happiness and well-being of our boarding community.
  • We aim to develop a sense of responsibility for self, for others and the local environment as well as the sustainability of the planet.
  • We encourage pupils to look beyond their own community and to develop a national and a global perspective.
  • We recognise that pupils must be given the opportunity to develop a personal sense of spirituality so that they can begin to develop their own set of values which they hope to defend, an appreciation of the intangible and a genuine sense of compassion.
  • We prepare pupils to transfer to their senior schools at 13.
  • Hazlegrove provides a context for parents, pupils and staff, current and past to enjoy and benefit from an expression of community.
  • Hazlegrove is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
