The majority of extra-curricular activities are free. However, there are a small number of clubs / activities where a specialist instructor is employed to take the sessions and a termly charge applies.
Chargeable activities include the following:
Ballet
Ballet is taken by Miss Bell. The Pre-Prep children have sessions during the afternoon and Prep school children in the after-school activity times. Miss Bell organises regular displays or open lessons for the parents to see their children perform.
Golf
Golf at Hazlegrove is taught by Mr Martin Liley. Facilities available for golf include the mini golf course, driving nets and the putting green. In the winter, use is also made of the floodlit artificial pitches.
Horse riding
Riding School Lessons
Children are taken via minibus to the local riding stables for riding lessons.
Pevelings is an approved Pony Club Centre and has two floodlit outdoor arenas allowing the children to ride throughout the year. The children are taught in groups according to their ability.
This club is open to all Prep School pupils (Years 3 - 8) and there may be a waiting list subject to demand. Lessons are charged at the prevailing rate according to the number of lessons received. Children need to have their own jodhpurs, riding boots and gloves, but hats can be hired if necessary. Body protectors are optional for flat work, but must be worn when jumping in the field or over 2' in the school.
Horse riding - own pony
Children with their own ponies who wish to be considered for representing the school in competition should make contact with Mrs Cobb. Teams regularly represent the school in disciplines such as Show Jumping, One Day Eventing and Arena Eventing.
Judo
Judo is taken in the sports hall by Finn Gleeson. Pupils are prepared for gradings and, where appropriate, they represent the school in IAPS competitions.
Mandarin
Mandarin is offered as an optional extra by Mrs Yang who teaches Mandarin in the curriculum to pupils in Years 5 and 6. This option is popular with pupils who wish to continue learning Mandarin beyond Year 6 as well as younger children who wish to start learning Mandarin. If you are interested in this option it is worth putting your child's name down early as from time to time it has been necessary to have a waiting list.

Squash
The squash courts are always popular at break times and squash sessions will often take place within the normal after-school activity programme. Specialist squash coaching is also available with Tom Pollard as a chargeable activity. All pupils who play squash are considered for the teams who have regular fixtures against other local prep schools.
Tennis
In addition to the tennis available to all pupils as part of the curriculum in the Summer Term and as part of the after-school activity programme, specialist tennis coaching is available with our School tennis coach, Miss Parkin-Bowes.
Miss Parkin-Bowes is a Licensed LTA Level 3 tennis coach with a wealth of coaching experience. Miss Parkin-Bowes has also worked with adults from beginner level up to club team level. Prior to this, Miss Parkin-Bowes spent a number of years working in the Sport Development department of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council carrying out sports coaching sessions for school children and adults.

Sessions for children are available before school, at lunchtimes and after school and there are opportunities for parents to play at drop-off time three mornings per week. Please contact Mr Cobb if you are interested in Tennis.

Once signed up for a specific time slot, children will be expected to give a term’s notice should they no longer wish to continue attending sessions. Lessons will be charged at the published rate.
Tennis coaching for adults
Sessions are available for adults and are timed to coincide with pupil drop-off in the mornings. For more information about these sessions please contact Mr Cobb.
